Sanden is a Japanese company that has been operating in Australia for more than 30 years, and that specializes in efficient hot water systems. Australia has some of the highest electricity costs in the world. If you’re looking for the ultimate in efficiency, economy, and earth-friendly design, Sanden hot water systems are a great place to start.

Sanden Eco Hot Water Heat Pumps are designed with the latest technology in passive heating that uses an innovative process to take ambient heat from the air and heat your water to much higher temperatures — all while using barely any electricity. The eco can use up to 37% less power than a solar hot water system. And unlike many other heat pumps, the Sanden Eco doesn’t require an electric-powered heater element as a booster: it works all by itself.

The system works using technology similar that used in refrigeration and air-conditioning. An ozone-friendly refrigerant gas called R744 (which doesn’t contribute to global warming) is used to absorb heat from the ambient air, which is compressed and used to heat the water in the tank. It’s a win-win: you get plenty of hot water without a big electric bill, and the planet get’s a break from high-energy hot water systems.

Many customers experience a 75% decline in their hot water energy use with Sanden systems.

Sanden Eco Hot Water Heat Pumps are available in 160L, 250L, and 315L (both tall and short) versions, and features a stainless steel tank that is under warranty for 15-years. Like all modern systems, these can deliver mains pressure hot water to multiple taps at the same time — but unlike most, it can heat water 50% faster than a conventional electric system.

The systems even has built-in freeze protection so it can be used anywhere in Australia, year-round. It doesn’t take blistering heat outside to run this unit; low ambient temperatures of minus 10 degrees can be used to generate hot water with a heat pump. The Eco heat pump is also whisper-quiet, which makes it friendly for the neighbors or for operation in your backyard.

While heat pump systems have a higher upfront costs, lower bills and rebates from the government (in the form of Small scale Technology Certificates, or STCs) offset the price — especially given the rising cost of electricity that Australians are dealing with. Sanden Eco Hot Water Heat Pump Systems are eligible for more STCs than any other heat pumps on the Australian market.
